POSITION PURPOSE

To provide effective maintenance service support for all IPTC rolling stock capital of passenger transport vehicles and service support vehicle equipment. The purpose of the Manager of Maintenance Technical Training & Development is to establish and manage a structured training program and system (inclusive of curriculum development and classroom and practical instruction to provide technical knowledge for the safe maintenance, inspection, testing, repair, and operation of all IPTC fleet vehicles.  This position will coordinate with all existing and future product manufacturers/vendors to insure product operation, maintenance and safety requirements and protocols are included in the IPTC structured maintenance training curriculum, materials and programs; and support all areas of Fleet Services to determine training needs and develop and conduct training programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors the training compliance with the requirements of Maintenance trades on high voltage, electrical & hydraulic vehicles and equipment.
  • Work with all Fleet Services Managers and Supervisors in the development and training of future Apprenticeship and Internship programs.
  • Implementation and maintenance of systems diagnostics training programs.
  • Identify and confirm all source appropriate training material and utilize all resources necessary to provide a cost effective and functional training matrix.
  • Develop, maintain and update OEMs maintenance training manuals & package as required.
  • Develop and implement facilitator’s manuals, capability assessments and workplace competency of Heavy Equipment Repair.
  • Analyze current and future operating requirements to identify training needs and develop training programs.
  • Writes, edits and produces materials for technical instruction.
  • Develop training schedules and facilitate training as per skills training matrix, for all current and new hires; and for any retraining/re-fresher training needs identified; maintain training and competency records in HR system.
  • Ensure all operating standards/ procedures are accurate and fully communicated to all Fleet Services employees
  • Coordinate with IPTC Human Resources Learning and Development team regarding any additional fleet services employee training needs.
  • Establishes and directs a department training guide and qualification record system.
  • Maintains current industry specific trends in technical developments, technical training, and audiovisual techniques including the maintenance of company bus and motor pool vehicle instruction manuals.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates all required technical training and outside contract sales technical training programs.
  • Coordinates with both Director of Preventative Maintenance and Repairs and the Director of Fleet & Inventory Control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises one or more employees.
  • Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work; sets goals for the staff; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field or Business Administration preferred. An equivalent combination of secondary education and 4-6 years of experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive supervisory/management experience in related field required.
  • Bus/commercial fleet maintenance training and maintenance training curriculum development preferred.
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), the internet, and audio/visual systems.
  • Knowledge of engines, automatic transmissions, differentials, and other components used in the heavy vehicle and transit maintenance industry.
  • Advanced Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair from a recognized Institution
  • Relevant Training qualifications
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience preferably in the Transit industry
  • Work with all Managers and Supervisors on developing and training future Apprenticeship program
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong listening skills.
  • Ability to interact with others, including groups, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
  • Above average decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Above average mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and fractions), including the ability to apply principles of algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to process and analyze data, to work with probabilities, and to make statistical inferences.
  • Ability to monitor a budget, to track and control expenses and revenues, to conduct financial analysis, and to create financial documents.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively; flexibility is required.\
