POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Transportation Manager(s), the Transportation Supervisor, supervises the day-to-day operations of the Fixed Route and Project Mobility service and board operations, as well as related communications functions to include: service quality decisions and emergency response.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Works directly with staff on duties to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching and counseling to ensure consistent application of the Employee Standards of Performance, Core Values and other RTA processes/procedures.

  • Ensures all employees understand the job expectations, responsibilities and have received proper instruction, orientation and training.

  • Coordinates with other departments to maximize team efforts, improve consistency and assure professional quality of services to all external and internal customers.

  • Supervises the orientation and training of personnel. Makes recommended changes in training policies, standards and procedures. Develops team-building, recognition and supervision procedures for their focus group of operators.

  • Works with the Transportation Manager(s), Lead Supervisor(s), Human Resources and Labor Relations Manager regarding employee relations issues, policies and procedures and ensure adherence to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  • Applies the provision of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in accordance with the guidelines established.

  • Assists with the mobilization of resources during emergency response and critical incident scenarios.

  • Administers the daily board and overtime procedures in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  • Monitors same day service and investigates/analyzes situations which impact or may impact service. Communicates information and/or recommendations to appropriate management personnel.

  • Investigates accidents, incidents, disputes and disturbances as assigned in accordance with policy and in conjunction with involved authorities.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversees the Transportation Department payroll functions. Inputs pay data into computerized system, Trapeze OPS. Reviews and verifies pay records and compares pay records with computer summaries to verify accuracy and reconcile errors to meet payroll deadlines.

  • Maintains accurate attendance reports and logs. Verifies employee time records for accuracy of hours worked, sick leave, overtime, etc., computes and balances totals for verification to prepare for processing payroll.

  • Maintains and monitors' leave, holidays, anniversaries, etc. and status of absences, such as Workers Compensation and Family Medical Leave (FML).

  • Monitors and coaches operator performance and behavior, models passenger interaction skills, coaches operators in use of time, checks and instructs periodically on proper revenue, transfers and fare box data collection and recommends training or retraining, as appropriate to ensure compliance with safety policies.

  • Reschedules buses due to disruptions in service in conjunction with radio dispatch as appropriate.

  • Rides vehicles to record running time between hubs, exact time at each stop, exact time at all points, number of passengers unable to board at any given stop, number of boarding’s and alighting’s and number of wheelchair passengers, etc.

  • Organizes and prioritizes services as assigned and in conjunction with other departments during construction reroutes, parades, extra trippers, special events, severe weather operations and emergencies to minimize service disruptions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an Associate’s Degree or equivalent. Preferred candidate will have knowledge of the transit system operations and have a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Candidate must act independently within established operational policy guidelines, be highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while exceeding established goals and objectives. Knowledge of Microsoft office software, excellent communication (oral and written), math, and presentation skills with ability to communicate to people at all levels of the organization, both vertical and horizontal is required.

Compensation commensurate with experience.
