Transit Connection, Inc. seeks a qualified and experienced General Manager to manage the day-to-day transit operations for the VTA on Martha's Vineyard Island.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct the staff of the transit operation service to provide safe, efficient and customer-focused service to the transit riders
- Ensure that the contractual requirements with the Authority are met and complied to and maintain an effective and productive working relationship with the client
- Maintain a harmonious and productive workplace environment
- Ensure that the delivery of transit services has adequate staff resources to fill all runs and keep overtime to an absolute necessary minimum
- Counsel, commend, and appraise all staff including participating in interviewing and selecting new applicants for various positions
- Follow the principles of progress discipline when addressing employee performance issues
- Arrange for necessary staff training and skills development appropriate to job requirements
- Liaise with the client in determining staffing and scheduling requirements to meet seasonal demands in passenger volume and service levels adequately
- Coordinate the planning, recruiting, and training of the corresponding quantity of staff for service level projections
- Promote programs and standards in workplace and vehicle operating safety
- Ensure all compliance requirements such as maintaining valid Commercial Drivers’ Licenses are observed
- Oversee and maintain ongoing programs including pre-employment controlled substance and alcohol screening, criminal license checks, random controlled substance and alcohol screenings
- Plan for future operational and training requirements
- Provide constructive input to the client on matters of mutual interest
- Oversee the support processes to the transit operations including scheduling and selection of work shifts and assignments, accurate payroll and timekeeping data and other employee documentation
- Ensure that personal employee information is retained in a confidential state
- Ensure that the parallel para-transit service is efficiently operated to the same high standards interface with customers and related agencies is professionally maintained and revenue and other information is recorded and reconciled
- Maintain a positive relationship with the Union representing vehicle operators and ensure CBA terms are observed; May be required to support or participate in CBA negotiations
- Act as a mentor to subordinate staff and develop capable staff to be able to assume more responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve issues that may arise in the workplace.
- Collaborate with the AGM and the balance of the management team on all matters guiding the business and operation.
- Support the client in any promotional or other initiatives
- Other related duties as may transpire or be assigned
Education and Experience required: - A minimum of an undergraduate degree with at least ten years of full-time workplace or business experience at a supervisory or greater level
- Experience in management of a bargaining unit representing the workforce
- Experience in the transportation or transit industry working beyond the confirms of typical business hours and variables in staff scheduling providing seven-day-a-week coverage
- A clean driving abstract and the ability to secure a Commercial Driving License
- A knowledge of the service area demographics, points of interest, traffic patterns, and road topography
