The ideal Candidate hired will provide support to the Maintenance Department by conducting project management, maintenance training, technical software maintenance, and oversight of regulatory compliance. Creates department procedures and Technical Service Bulletins.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assigns work to the Transit Technical Trainer and special projects staff, coordinating workers activities to ensure maximum efficiency.

  • Develops specifications, scopes of work, and independent cost estimates for projects.

  • Establishes goals and objectives for the Maintenance Training section.

  • Evaluates employee performance.

  • Enforces the safety performance including rules and regulations compliance and recommends corrective action.

  • Supervises training staff and project task staff.

  • Analyzes technical data and creates project procedures.

  • Develops training curriculum and materials. Approves training schedules and maintains training records.

  • Maintains technical libraries and electronic media. Reviews industry publications.

  • Administers department emissions testing programs.

  • Manages vehicle purchases and conducts line inspections and configuration audits at vehicle manufacturing facilities.

  • Supervises the acceptance inspection process for new vehicles.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, labor contracts and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two years post high school/GED education with a preference given to mechanical engineering; a minimum of 5 years’ experience with at least 3 years of recent experience training adults; OR any equivalent combination of education and work experience with 3 years of recent experience training adults. Must be familiar with current business operating systems, Microsoft office, vehicle diagnostics, and other software applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid Commercial Class B license, with a passenger endorsement is required. Must have Commercial Class B permit at time of hire and obtain license within six (6) months of hire.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Methods, equipment and tools used in vehicle maintenance operation.

  • Parts room procedures, inventory control methods and purchasing procedures.

  • Construction and operations of buses, diesel engines and motor vehicle equipment.

ABILITY TO:
  • Diagnose mechanical failures, and train maintenance department personnel.

  • Enforce the preventative maintenance program, shop procedures and safety standards.

  • Should have the ability to work PC applications including CAD/CAM and graphic design programs.

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
