Summary
Performs complex professional and administrative work directing the transportation and training program for a medium to large size fixed-route public transit agency.

Responsible for managing and supervising the daily operational activities of hundreds of drivers and implementation of various training programs. Provides general supervision and guidance to various staff that can include managers, supervisors, dispatchers, and training personnel. Provides strategic planning and direction, manages process compliance within area of responsibility, and assists in development of and managing the training department.

Key Functions Include:

  • Promoting efficiencies that are consistent with transit industry best practices and being an agent for change and creating process improvements.

  • Setting the direction and priorities for Operations and Training employees with a goal of providing safe, reliable and efficient bus service.

  • Manage, mentor and support various professional support staff.

  • Fostering strong relationships with employees, union leadership and other functional department

  • Lead organization through various types of change; including cultural, procedures, technology and service expansion and other types of change aimed at improving service to customers and engaging employee.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Proven change management leader.

  • Experience fostering good working relationships with union leadership and its members.

  • Independent thinker that can proactively and re-actively establish and implement solutions for issues.

  • Strong verbal and written commination in articulating process and procedural change to get staff on board.

Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (technical business, public and/or transportation administration, transportation planning or other related field), and four years of increasingly responsible supervisory or managerial experience; preferably in a public transit setting; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
