Transportation Manager

• Lead & Inspire: Supervise and support a dedicated team, manage performance evaluations, and coordinate impactful training programs.
• Strategic Oversight: Plan and direct transit operations, craft comprehensive plans, and ensure seamless route adjustments.
• Innovate: Develop and implement policies, manage budgets, and oversee a range of administrative and operational tasks.
• Engage & Represent: Address public inquiries, ensure compliance with laws, and represent the agency at key meetings and events.

Essential Functions
The following functions are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.  
• Plans, manages, oversees, directs, and coordinates activities and projects for transit operations. Supervises and participates in the preparation of complex plans, programs, and communications. Interfaces with other departments on plans and projects and to ensure routes are adjusted when needed.  
• Manages administrative functions and coordinates the development and implementation of policies, work rules, projects, and teams related to Transit Operations. Directs the preparation of various correspondence and reports for the section.  
• Provides oversight to Transit Operators, Dispatch Office, field supervisors, the Communications Center and Fixed Route Customer Service.  
• May participate in managing and maintaining the Pierce Transit Emergency Operations Center.  
• Prepares and monitors a budget plan that reflects the division’s priorities. Allocates resources to meet priorities and goals and manages contracts.
• Responds to questions and inquiries from the public and stakeholders concerning ordinances, regulations, policies, and projects.
• Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or statutes.
• Participates in collective bargaining, on behalf of the agency.
• Serves as liaison with management and staff, external agencies and organizations. Represents the Agency at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, and/or other related events. 
• Demonstrates reliable and consistent attendance.
• Performs related work as required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Public Administration or a related field and
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transit operations, scheduling, or dispatching including supervisory experience or
• Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
