SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direction of the Superintendent of Transportation and Managers of Road Supervision, individual selected for this position is responsible for supervising and coaching the performance and progress of an assigned staff of bus operators and supervising bus activity throughout Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) routing system. Includes supervising, directing and monitoring bus activity and pedestrian traffic within the Transportation Center and the Pull-Out/Pull-In of buses on Bus Lot. Must be able to perform work of any assigned Operations Supervisor as outlined in the Job Functions and Responsibilities of this Job Description. May be assigned specific duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage/supervise and coach the performance and progress of bus operators and bus activity throughout CATS routing system.
- Provide leadership and direction to employees assigned to Flight, includes semi and annual evaluation of performance of bus operators within assigned Flight. Includes overseeing training, route certifications, route change quality assurance, discipline, provides counseling and advice on operations policy issues.
- Investigate vehicular accidents/incidents including employee injuries. Includes investigating complaints that may arise from customers or employees then present and suggest viable solutions/resolutions for Dept. C/S Quality Control Manager.
- Make independent judgement decisions that effect the smooth and efficient preservation of service.
- Ensure that the focus is on Charlotte Area Transit System’s Mission Statement priorities, this includes providing quality customer service that’s safe and on time.
- Promote effective employee relations and maintain working relationship with the union representatives, including overseeing the uniform application of the Labor Agreement, Performance Code, Safety Procedures and Operational Bulletins.
STATION SUPERVISOR JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responsible for supervising, directing and monitoring all bus activity and pedestrian traffic within the Transportation Center, includes arrivals and departures to ensure that the bus operators are adhering to all safety regulations.
- Provide quality customer service information to customers and answer any and all questions pertaining to routing and scheduling information throughout the transit system in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ensures adequate supply of printed customer information at Transportation Center, includes, transfers, route guides, bus schedules, maps, rider alerts, special notices and bulletins.
- Responsible for making prudent updates as needed to route monitors when on-time service is interrupted, includes assuring that route monitors are operational and the correct information is being displayed to the public.
- Assist and summon as needed transportation security, local police and CATS-BOD Operations Managers to deter possible crime and disturbances within the transportation center.
LOT SUPERVISOR JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responsible for supervising, directing and monitoring the Pull-Out/Pull-In of buses from the Charlotte Transit Bus Parking Lot, includes the monitoring and directing of all vehicular and employee/pedestrian traffic to ensure that all safety procedures are adhered.
- Responsible for ensuring that Pull-Outs are made in a timely manner and bus operators complete the required Pre-Trip Inspection prior to departures or Pull-Outs and Post-Trip Inspection upon Pull-Ins.
- Responsible for daily physical inventory of bus line-up on bus lot to assure that the required number of buses are available for required work assignments.
- Direct all on-lot bus exchanges, assist maintenance lot mechanic by assigning most critical problems and urgent pull-outs.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not state or imply that the aforementioned essential functions and responsibilities are the only duties assigned to this position. Individual holding this position may be required to perform “other related duties” as assigned by the Manager of Road Supervision and Superintendents.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: HS Diploma/GED. However, preference given to individuals with Associates Degree in Business/Transportation or two (2) or more years of college evidenced by official transcripts with course work in management and or human relations; Must possess and maintain valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement as driving Charlotte Area Transit System vehicles (bus/car/van) is an essential part of job duties. Prior manager/supervisor experience in a comparable transit or transportation industry a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (MS Word, Outlook and other customized transit programs). Excel, although not required is a plus. In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, must possess good leadership qualities, ability to make good sound decisions and cognitive reasoning. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are an essential part of job duties. Must be able to provide proof of fully vaccination.
WORK SCHEDULE: Must be able to work flexible and varied work hours. Work schedule may vary to meet demands and hours of the operation of bus service. May include split shift, including holidays, weekends, nights and irregular hours.
